The shastras call food Brahman itself. Why the temple kitchen never closes its doors.
'Annam Brahma' — food is Brahman — declares the Taittiriya Upanishad. Of all forms of daan, the giving of food is said to be complete, because it satisfies the receiver entirely. No one who is fed asks for more.
Every day our temple kitchen prepares sattvic prasadam for pilgrims, sadhus, students and anyone who is hungry. No one is asked their caste, creed or reason for coming. They are guests of the Lord.
Devotees often sponsor annadanam on birthdays, anniversaries or in memory of departed loved ones. The sankalp is taken in your family's name, and the merit of the meal is dedicated to whom you choose.
Even if you cannot sponsor a meal, you may serve one. Our seva volunteers chop vegetables, serve food and wash vessels — and many say the hour in the kitchen is the most meaningful part of their visit.
